Saturday September 6th, 9:00-9:30am. For a peaceful half an hour, the iconic Bridge of the Gods will be closed to motorized traffic, so pedestrians and bicycles can celebrate its breathtaking views. Explore what it's like to cross the bridge as a hiker on the PCT. Celebrate the bi-state connection of Gorge communities and economies. Learn about the efforts to make the bridge safer for pedestrians, bikes, and horses.

In the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, hub of world-class bicycle, hiking, and historic trails, the Bridge of the Gods sits at the convergence of The Columbia River Historic Highway, three National Historic Trails, and the Pacific Crest Trail. The Bridge is a beautiful asset to residents and visitors alike. At the same time, it has been referred to by many long-distance hikers and equestrians as the most treacherous part of the Pacific Crest Trail. Despite the fact that pedestrians, horses, bicyclists, and even casual tourists are permitted on the bridge, there’s no shoulder-the narrow lanes must be shared with constant two-way traffic.

The addition of a non-motorized pathway across the Bridge would radically transform the experience of countless cyclists, commuters, history buffs, photographers, students, families, and sight-seers. We now have an opportunity to take first steps towards this vision. We are working towards raising $18,000 for an engineering cost analysis. After contributions from four organizations, we have $5,000 left to go! During this event, consider contributing an optional "bridge toll" toward long term safety for non-motorized users.

Please, no pets. Use extreme caution with children. Meet at the Bridge of the Gods PCT trailhead area, near the tollbooth. Park in the Marine Park or downtown Cascade Locks. Following the bridge walk, enjoy the PCT Days festival that's ongoing at the Marine Park!

A FREE event with rare access to Captain William Clark's (recently located) 1806 Portland campsite.  The 2013 Seaport Celebration will have FREE parking and admission at the Port of Portland's Terminal 4 in the St. Johns neighborhood. Check out the entertainment, food, art, kid's stuff, $5 jet boat rides, restrictions (bring a photo I.D.).

Volunteers are needed for a special mission.  The Oregon Chapter of the Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation will be joined at an adjacent display table by the Friends of Baltimore Woods, a St. Johns group working to acquire a natural viewpoint overlooking the campsite.  If you can help out at the booth for a shift at either 10 AM or 1 PM you'll have the most fun, so e-mail Steven McClure at mccluresteven@yahoo.com to let us know. Discovering the Lake Missoula Flood In Clackamas County — 

All-Day Tour — Charter bus to depart: at 8:00 AM and will return at 5:00 PM

The Lower Columbia Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute invites you on an all-day bus tour of Lake Missoula Floods evidence in Clackamas County. Lake Missoula Floods (LMF) expert Rick Thompson, who has extensively studied and mapped features in the area left by the cataclysmic Missoula Ice Age Floods, will lead the tour.

Highlights of the trip include: Being the first to see a newly discovered spillway between the Clackamas Valley and the Willamette Valley. Baker Cabin where the Lake Missoula Flood created a short-lived waterfall and carved holes in the basalt which the Native Americans later used for grinding stones. A bird's eye view of the Carver Gap and flood channel. The reputed second largest glacial erratic in Oregon. Canemah — a scabland on the east side of the Willamette River. Willamette Falls which is a receding waterfall.

As part of the trip you will enjoy: 1) outstanding and knowledgeable field trip leader, 2) your own copy of a very detailed and well-illustrated Field Trip Guide booklet, and 3) comfortable deluxe chartered bus with microphone system for lectures while in route.
